Transatlantic Legislator's Dialogue: EPP Group Members in Washington DC to push for EU-US Trade Agreement

Ten Members of the EPP Group led by Christian Ehler MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the United States, will be in Washington DC this week to push for a comprehensive Trade Agreement between the European Union and the United States.

Meeting Members of the US Congress and the new US administration within the framework of the Transatlantic Legislators' Dialogue (TLD) from 29 November to 1 December, the EPP Group Members will aim at working out the next steps towards launching an EU-US Trade Agreement in 2013.

Participants on the US side include Dave Camp, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee, the influential House committee in charge of taxation and tariffs; and several Members of the US Senate and House of Representatives. In the margins of the TLD meeting, Christian Ehler will also meet the US Deputy National Security Advisor, Michael Froman.

"Now is the time to work towards a comprehensive transatlantic Trade Agreement eliminating tariffs and other trade barriers which would add as much as 1.5 percentage points of growth to both the US and Europe, translating into a large number of new jobs. A transatlantic Trade Agreement would give a much-needed boost to both economies and would contribute to prosperity worldwide", Christian Ehler said.
